2017 VW Golf Alltrack
Features
Exterior
By combining toughness and sophistication, the Golf Alltrack is able to capture the best of both worlds. All models come with a number of fun features, including:
- Silver roof rails that replace the black from the 2016 model
- Rugged black lower cladding
- Increased ground clearance of 6.9 inches (1.4 more than the 2016 model)
The standard S model comes with 17-inch wheels and halogen headlights. The next model, the SE, comes with a panoramic sunroof for enjoying the outdoors. However, for the best upgrade, the SEL model comes with 18-inch wheels and bi-xenon highlights.
Interior
The interior seats of the Golf Alltrack are finished in a black or brown leatherette, which offers comfort while being easy-to-clean. Additionally, silver accent trim on the handle and pedals highlight the interior's uniqueness. A flat-bottom steering wheel helps drivers feel as though they are driving a sports car rather than a crossover. All of these features help the car maintain a minimalist vibe while still preserving its class.
As for interior space, passengers in the back won't complain for lack of headroom or legroom. To create more room for toting around baggage, the rear seats fold down to create a massive 66.5 cubic feet of cargo area.
Technology
The Golf Alltrack comes standard with a 6.5-inch touch screen that lets the driver control various aspects of the journey. In the SEL model, it doubles as a Discover Media system that features navigation, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. This trim model also includes Climatronic dual-zone automatic climate control to keep each passenger at a comfortable temperature.
All trim levels have these features for optimum convenience:
- Keyless entry and ignition
- Dual-illuminating vanity mirrors
- Off-road drive mode selector, which includes normal, custom, sport, and off-road settings
Performance
The Golf Alltrack features a 1.8-liter turbocharged TSI I-4 paired with a six-speed dual-clutch transmission. The car also has 4Motion all-wheel drive, helping it boast 170 hp and 199 lb-ft of torque on the road.
While it won't be winning any speed awards, the acceleration time of 0 to 60 mph is adequate, with the vehicle completing the task in 7.4 seconds. This time beat out the 2015 Volkswagen Golf TSI, which took 7.8 seconds, but lost to the 2016 Volkswagen Golf SportsWagen TSI S 1.8T, which took 7.3 seconds. Additionally, it took the 3,482 pound Alltrack 122 feet to come to a complete stop at 60 mph.
Safety
The 2017 Golf Alltrack earned an overall five star safety rating from the US NHTSA in crash tests and was also named a Top Safety Pick by IIHS. The car earned this recognition by having backup cameras at all trim levels. Additionally, the car is constructed of high-strength steel in key areas and fitted with a safety cage that absorbs energy in the event of a crash.
Buyers can also add on the Driver Assistant Package, which comes loaded with forward collision warning and automatic braking, adaptive cruise control, front and back parking sensors, and self-parking.
