Most folks aren't aware that the VW Touareg is the product of a joint venture with Porsche and Audi. It goes without saying, then, that most folks also aren’t aware that two of the same powertrains used in the Touareg are also used by the Porsche Cayenne – which makes the 2015 Volkswagen Touareg a real bargain! For this model year, changes include mild restyling of the exterior and the addition of LED taillights and xenon headlights, as well as some new safety features.

Notably, the 2015 Touareg hybrid easily hits sixty miles per hour in just 5.8 seconds. That makes it one of the fastest SUVs in the segment! At cruising speeds and in certain conditions, the 2015 Touareg hybrid shuts of the engine and disengages the transmission to coast and save fuel. In fact, using only electric power only, the hybrid model can cruise at up to 31 miles per hour solely on electric power. Don’t let the fuel efficiency fool you though, with the proper equipment, any 2015 Volkswagen Touareg can pull up to 7,700 pounds.

Touareg V6 Trim Levels

The 2015 Touareg V6 is available in four trim levels:

• V6 Sport: The base model comes with 18” wheels, automatic wipers, roof rails, power liftgate, cruise control, adaptive xenon headlights, fog lights, telescope/tilt steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, 8-way power front seats, and premium vinyl (leatherette) upholstery. Electronic features include satellite radio w/iPod integration, a 6-CD changer, 8-speaker audio w/6.5” color touchscreen, HD radio, and Bluetooth audio/phone connectivity.
• V6 Sport W/Tech: This trim has everything from the Sport trim, plus the TDI diesel engine, navigation w/8” color touchscreen, keyless entry/start, rearview camera, a trailer hitch, blind-spot monitoring, and a hands-free powered liftgate – just wave your foot under the bumper for easy access!
• V6 Lux: Start with the features of the Sport with Technology trim and add 19” Wheels, rear and front parking sensors, panoramic sunroof, leather upholstery and wood trim elements, driver memory functions, power-folding mirrors and powered rear-seat releases.
• V6 Executive: This model includes everything from the Lux trim, but changes the wheels to a unique design and a larger 20” size, and adds upgraded trim, heated rear seats and steering wheel, 4-camera top-view parking display, Dynaudio 10-speaker premium sound system and rear sunshades.

Available for the Lux and Executive trim levels is the Driver Assistance Package, which adds front-collision warning w/brake intervention, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keeping assist.

The 2015 Touareg TDI^® is available in three trim levels

• TDI Sport W/Technology: Same features as V6 version
• TDI Lux: Same features as V6 version
• TDI Executive: Same features as V6 version

The 2015 Touareg Hybrid has one trim level

• Hybrid: This model is equipped like the Executive model, but has 19” wheels, the mid-level navigation/audio system, and it also includes memory settings for the front passenger seat, a power-adjustable steering column, and the Driver Assistance Package as standard features.

Design Highlights

The cabin of the 2015 VW Touareg offers new wood and chrome accents and white LED ambient lighting. In the Volkswagen Touareg, the rear seat not only reclines, but also travels 6.3” fore and aft for easy access. Cargo capacity is respectable for a midsize SUV at 32.1 cubic feet with the rear seats in use and 64 cubic feet with them stowed. Interestingly, the cargo capacity is unaffected by the battery pack.

Safety Features

It's important to note that the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) awarded the 2015 VW Touareg their top “Good” score for passenger protection in rear-impact (whiplash), rollover, moderate-overlap frontal-offset and side-impact collisions. Standard safety gear on all trims includes:

• Stability and Traction Control Systems
• Hill Hold Assist and Post-collision Automatic Braking
• Antilock Disc Brakes
• Full-length Side-curtain and Front-side Airbags

Also standard on the every trim but the base Sport are a rearview camera and blind-spot monitoring. Executive and Hybrid trims also add an upgraded top-view camera. Frontal collision warning, frontal collision mitigation w/automatic braking and lane-keeping assist are optional on Lux and Executive models. The line-topping Hybrid gets all safety features listed as standard items.
